Hey reader. I wrote this post as I went through the week. It seems that Sriracha sauce came into my life at just the right time, as I feel my spring allergies setting in and I recently learned that spicy food helps with congestion and such.
Day one:
Today I brought home my first bottle of Sriracha hot sauce. I figured the best way to figure out what to what to do with it is to try it buy itself. I shook the bottle and put a little line of it on my hand and licked it off. I gotta say not bad. I'm not really used to spicy food, so it was kind of intense, as I expected. Gotta say, this experiment is going to be fun.
Day two:
Alright, I got creative. I made a funky gourmet health burger. Since I'm not feeling amazing I tried to make a burger topped with all my go to ingredients to give my body a boost. I made a beef burger and topped it with sautéed onion, mushrooms, garlic, ginger, and spinach. I added a whole grain bun and provolone cheese. The really fun part was I added about 1 tsp. hot sauce to 1 tsp of ketchup. I wasn't real sure how this was going to taste, but I figured in the name of my health I should just go for it. I'm glad I did! It was pretty good, and I could taste the hot sauce without it searing my mouth. I even used my ketchup concoction on my sweet potato fries. Day two was definitely a success, and I'm going strong.
Day three:
I'm pretty sure I was breathing fire after dinner tonight. I made lemon tilapia and the spicy part came into place when I made the vegetables. I steamed zucchini, onion, garlic, ginger, and mushrooms (all the usual suspects) and covered them in juice from half a lemon and a tsp. of Sriracha sauce. At first I wasn't sure if my mouth was burning from the temperature of the food or the spiciness of the sauce. As I went on there was no doubt the sauce was doing me in. My SKIM milk wasn't really helpful and by the end all I wanted to do was lick butter. As my sinuses are getting clearer, this experiment is getting harder. Despite the pain, I'm still committed.
